Janek --
GREAT seeing you yesterday. Folks, we have only allowed this much video footage to be shot in the shop one time previously and that is no longer in the public domain. However, in light of what Janek is trying to do for the bass community, and our strong support of it, we made an exception to our usual no video policy. Janek's video should be really fun and is truly a behind the scenes look at the shop!
Cheers,

I'll post in hear when the video goes live.

| | | | Janek, I'm just about to finish ordering a fodera through basscentral heres the specs
MG 5 (E-C) with a detuner, 33" scale, 24 fret, 17.5MM spacing, walnut body, alder tone block, buckeye top, ebony FB, SD dual coil pups, etc
My questions is are there and problems with the detuner as far as tension and intonation?
And
How big/small did you get your fretwire? |

I've had no problems with the detuner since we figured out how to string it the right way. You just have to make sure there isn't more than 3/4 of a turn around the peg and it works amazing. I have it dropping from an E all the way to a B so obviously it isn't going to be quite as tight as a dedicated B string on a 5 string bass, but it's pretty damn close, and perfect for what I need it for. And if you're just going down to a D or a C it's really superb as far as tension goes.
I have no idea about the fret wire, but you can contact Jason at Fodera and ask him directly. Just email or call, and tell them you want to know what the fret wire size is on my new bass and they'll be glad to help. My new one is going to be finished in about 10 days so I know it's on the bench right now and is very fresh in their minds. I'm sure they have all the info you need.
Thanks,
Janek |

you said that you dont play whit your onboard EQ at all .. right but what about your rh450 EQ ?
i know that your philosophy is finger = tone
but how can you get such amazing midrange on a 2 pickup setup (
do you only use the bridge pickup or something else ( by the way is the pickup are fodera dual coil ? )...
i lovee the live at 55 bar
sorry for the gear question
thanks

So I experimented with tuning from the already dropped A and then bringing the string back up to pitch... still not exact, but it was closer. Granted, this was with the B string wrapped 3 full times around the peg.
With only having 3/4 of the string wrapped around the peg that the D-tuner is on, do you lose any sustain? Is it even a factor? I'm worried if I try that with my B string, that it will get thin or lose sustain.
Any thoughts on that? |

Every aspect of EQ on both the amp and the bass is flat... I do tend to prefer the rear pickup for that mid tone, but right hand position affects the sound hugely so I get a massive dynamic range out of just that.
Hip shot question:
I haven't used the hipshot on a low B string.... I can only comment on the E string I use it on on my main bass. I've never had a problem with tension or slipping or anything like that, and I only have it wrapped 3/4 of a turn on the tuning Peg.
I would just experiment with it for a while and see what happens with the B string.

As you are speaking about string tension, can you tell me which string gauge are you using E to C ?
Thank you and best regards |

I've been using them on my 4-strings for a long time now and always found they went sharp after dropping down, even with lots of graphite under the string. I'm going to go break out my string cutters now. . .
