Your Interviews & Documentary

Janek,
I wanted to give you props on your documentaries/interviews, they are great! You are doing a service to everyone who sees them. They are engaging, fun, and informative. Whether the subject is a monster player or top of the line company, i really appreciate the human element that they add (you and Juan geeking out over gear like a everyone else on these boards, classic!).

now this part... I know you don't like gear questions, but I am in the market for a little camera for tour docs and such. what kind of camera are you using? you've got some real skills editing too (final cut?).
also, did you do the fodera music? from the down-tempo stuff to acoustic guitar work, i really dig it!

Hi,

thanks for the kind words about the videos, I really have a passion for it and it's great to see people getting something out of it.

now here's the thing.... I'm actually way more into gear questions about non music related stuff!!! maybe there should be a section about that on my forum!

Here's what I'm using and have been using:

Since I started the lesson site and video interview stuff I've been using a fairly inexpensive Sanyo Xacti camcorder that shoots only a max of 720p, and I've been editing everything in iMovie. Now both of those options are totally workable, but I'm getting to the point where they both suck because I really want to take it to another level.

So this past sunday I invested in a Canon 60D with a 28-135mm lens, and will buy a 50mm f/1.4, and a couple of others for it too this week. That gives me 1080p Full HD movie capabilities, and incredible stills too. And I'm in the process of making the shift to Final Cut. It's just that's a whole other set of skills to get together so it's going to take me a while.

All of the music in the fodera doc is other artists. a mixture of pat metheny, foo fighters, Arve Henriksen, John Mayer, and a couple of different movie sound track things. One of my big passions is music in movies, and I would have loved to have scored all the music for the fodera piece on my own, but time just wasn't in my favor.

I'm working on several projects right now where I'm shooting all the footage and scoring all the music. Can't wait to release that stuff. Will keep this forum and everywhere else updated of course.

Thanks for your support.
