I've had good experiences with Good Guys on Grand in St Paul. They fixed my GK400rb quickly and cheaply. Casey Goobey doesn't do pro audio as far as I know. Google him though and his email/phone # are on his website.

I'm a fan of Scott...highly recommend him...Casey is awesome as well....not takin shots at Neal....but...good...guys....you have to be one of the first ...ever...to have good vibes there...jus sayin...and, I am glad you did. It's intended to be so...

HaHa. Hey, sometimes I deserve someone takin shots at me!

My experience is limited to 4 total visits (2 drop offs, 2 pick ups) to Good Guys and all were pleasant and everything they fixed is still running. That said, if I had the choice between listening to me or Kenner, I would choose Kenner every time...

My lone experience at Good Guys was also bad. I brought my combo amp in to fix a rattle (while under warranty). They estimated one month to fix it, but I didn't get my amp back until three months later. They kept making promises when I'd call, but the deadline would pass and they'd say they hadn't even looked at it. Only when I threatened to pick it up and bring it to another shop did they finally fix it.

They did good work as I've not had a problem since, but it took forever. I won't be going back there.

Savage Audio took good care of my 400+. Estimated two weeks and they returned it to me before that even, and this was right before the holidays this year too.

It took me longer to find the time to get there during store hours than it did waiting for a call-back.

Another endorsement for Savage Audio. Great turnaround time and reliable work. Costs some $$$ but the peace of mind is worth it.

EMI did a good job on my G-K a year ago, and were fast and fair. I used to use Good Guys, but they seemed to have preferential customers who always got to butt-in-line for service times.

I've used Savage Audio on my Showman, and they were very good.

I've used EMI for my powered mixer and was plenty satisfied. I'm not saying they're "the best", but I think they'd do well for you.

I've had only good luck with The Good Guys. At one point they lived up to their name, then people found out about them and they got busy.

I've got a friend who was very disappointed in them. They charged him, but the issue remained and nothing visually looked like it was done. He stopped payment on the check to them and got a nasty phone call. I'd be wary of them.

but... if your experience is good somewhere...there's no reason not to keep goin...it's like auto repair folk.....I have a difficult time gettin "in line" with service work...(I don't like not knowing enough to do it myself...) If you find a place you're comfy with...work gets done as you were told....cost in the hood of where you were guesstimated (other things can/do crop up whilst hammering and nailng stuff back together)...you win : )

And another Savage endorsement from me. Just like Luckie said: they aren't the cheapest amp repairers around, but they understand tube amps inside and out and they also understand customer service, making reasonable promises and then doing everything possible to keep their promises.

I did not have a good experience with good guys. They were looking at my mb500 for warranty work. It took 8 weeks before they even looked at it. I was on my way to pick it up to bring it to emi, and the guy said they looked at it while I was on my way over. They noticed a loose screw. So they went to the hardware store and put a huge stainless screw in the driver mount and slapped some black nail polish on it. for 2 months it was their coffee table!

Very similar to my experience (see above). One of the more annoying things I forgot about earlier was a small dime-sized corner of tolex was peeling up near the power button on my MB212 (the adhesive apparently just didn't stick at that seam). I took it to them to fix it (in addition to the previously mentioned rattle). Their solution? They cut off the piece of tolex and painted the now-exposed wood black. Cheap, lazy....serenity now!

I'm sure I'm kind of biased here as Scott (aka Roctal-Amps) built my custom tube amp but I've seem him build, repair, and restore a sorts of tube amps. He just finished up a 70's Fender Studio Bass that needed a complete over haul and it turned out great. Feel free to send him a PM if you need something done. He does only work on tube amps though. No SS.

Exalt, speaking of short scale, I played a 60s (or 70s) Mosrite last night. It was worn, had a bunch of knobs and switches, flats, and very heavy. I couldn't put it down. A friend found it at a pawn shop in the middle of no where.

Hi...I have a 62RI Jazz that I took 3 years ago to Charlie Hoffman's for neck repair. No relief left. They put on another neck from factory. With the crazy humidty and lack of the same...I tried to adjust nut. Would only turn 1/2 turn tighter ...and that is as far as it would go. Would they put on a neck with so little relief left to adjust at a future time?
Anyway....is there someone in the Cities that takes care of Bass's? A store or individual?
