I'm working on finishing up two of Duke's little coffee shop 1x10's with tweeters by the GTG. If done, I'd like to get a GK MB200 amp to power the mini stack with. I'm not sure of the utility of the mini rig. Perhaps too quiet, but then again, I don't really tend to play with very loud bands these days. The two 1x10's, a bass and the GK in a pouch or something would be a seriously easy schlep with "just about there" volume that could be just enough for gigs where you know you aren't going to be able to "open it up." For me, that's a lot of gigs. I've liked the idea of two small 1x10 cabs for a few years now.
The truth is I've got one bass gig at church and the 1x10 with the BP-102 run by the Shuttle 6.0 has been completely adequate for it. Somewhat infrequently I get a different gig on bass. Those are always fairly quiet gigs, the church cab stays at church and the two 1x10's would get infrequent use, but perhaps some.
The real shame is that I've got this very nice Genz Benz NeoX 212T (600 watt 2x12) that barely sees service at all and when it does, I'm usually playing drums right next to it with someone else on bass. Oh well, perhaps I'll find a use for it some day. I shopped for 10 years before buying it. It's about the exact cab I was looking for.
In other cabs, I've got a lot of the parts required for a pair of "Acme B1-esque" cabs, a 10", a 6" mid and a tweeter with serious low end, but eats up watts in a big way. A fairly big cabinet for a 1x10 (like the church cab), but low end for days and days. I have some solidifying to do on the cab design.
I also have a couple of Eden cast frame 12's and an Eminence 8" mid. I just sort of got lumbered with the Eden 12's. I don't have the T/S parameters for them. I wrote down the dimensions of the cab and the ports before I tossed out the 1" thick particle board cab. The 12's are four ohm, so I'd like to make an eight ohm 2x12+8 cab out of it. Again, I've played with the design, but I haven't really settled on a final.
Those last two cabs are not real necessities for me. I'd like to finish them just to hear them, but I have no real use for them. It's just that I can't get anyone interested in the parts. I need to build working cabs for them before I can get them out of my basement and recoup some of the money out of them.
Jonny, I look forward to hearing your cabs. I spend a lot of time imagining how things are going to sound, but so few projects make it through to a final product that it's impossible to see how your theories hold up.
