Bass hang at Jorg Schroeder's - 7/1/08...

Sign in to disble this ad
Today is a great day indeed. Got the chance to visit Jorg's home with my buddy Miko Espanol and also there was fellow TB'er Howard (Knarleybass)... I had a chance to finally hear Schroeder cabs (I know, where have I been???!!!) including some prototypes. Also got to play some of Jorg's basses - wow!!!
The main feature of the hang was Jorg's new single 15 cab - it absolutely kills as a stand alone! I've never heard such a perfect combination of low end, mid punch and clarity from a single 15 cab... And it's about half the size of the cabs we're used to seeing... And did I mention 31 lbs! Also getting extensive testing was the 3rd generation 1212... I want one! Let me leave it at that.

Here are a few pics... I only took a few because I was too busy being blown away by Miko and Howard's playing and the beautiful sound of these cabs. Doesn't happen too often specially in "Bass Disneyland" but I was perfectly happy listening.

Just a quick word about Jorg Schroeder - simply put, the only thing greater than his cabs is the man behind them. You can really sense his passion for bass, working hard to make us sound better. Thank you Jorg!

Jorg demo'ing the current 1212 for us... An already awesome cabinet, but the innovator Jorg is, you knew he would find a way to make it even better!

Miko smokin' on his Fodera through the new 1212.

Howard making my Lull M5V sound even better!

Miko's turn to put the Lull through it's paces... Man that 1215 rocks!

Miko on Jorg's Bossa 6 string - she will be mine! Jorg's new 15 easily handled all the notes from the 6, from the open low B all the way to the 24th fret high C!

My future (hopefully) Bossa 6, JM Custom 5 & Schroeder 15 in Rhino blue cover...

You know I couldn't leave without a picture with the man himself!

Finally, the smokin' 3rd gen 1212...

Looking forward to the next one!

Sorry about the pic quality, I guess the lense was a bit dirty or something... Or maybe it was me.

What are the dimensions of the 15L? Is it bigger or smaller than the 1212?

Very intrigued by that 15. It could very well be my next cab!

Of course Jorg or Miko would are in a better position to answer this as far as specifics... But the 15 is smaller than the 1212, at least not as wide. Not quite sure if they're the same depth.

You won't be dissapointed with the cab... Jorg designed it to be a stand alone and it fulfills his goal. I've never heard such an "accurate" 15, great low end but not boomy so all the notes are there when you play chords.

I am not sure about the actual L and H, but it is 14" deep.

I assume you're talking about the thing around Jorg's waist... that's actually a weight lifting belt, the man's got a lot of cabs to move around.

I'm not quite familiar yet with all Bass amp gear, what head were you driving that cab with? Were you using anything else (pre-amp? other stuff?). I've just started reading about Schroeder cabs and they look interesting. I also like the fact that it's one builder behind the product.

The amp that we used was my Walter Woods Ultra. We used a prototype preamp (the blue stomp box on top of the amp).

MOD EDIT: Please reread the CUP.

This is another brand I've never heard of. And it looks like it's very tough to get (and price-wise it's quite high as well).

I'm noticing with the research I'm doing on bass amps & cabs that the boutique/limited quantity products tend to pop up more when people talk about solid workmanship and awesome bass sound (and choices for sound).

It would be cool so see a vid of you guys testing out this gear.

Maybe some of you could comment on this I posted in the Schro mega thread?

Newer Schroeder owners who are also familar with the older models;
if you have experience with the older Eminence loaded 410L,
and the newer Celestion loaded 410L...

any notable diff in tone?

It was an awesome day indeed... I could barely sleep last night I was so excited. So many great people, great players, great basses, great cabs...... And great food as well - thank you Hanya!

And what more can one say about Jorg Schroeder - the best way I can put it is he's the bass player's bass player. Thank you so much for everything - I can't wait to get my 1215!

To my lucky brothers down south: can you elaborate on what's new with the "3rd generation 1212"? This is next on my Schroe GAS list to tuck under my 1210.

Some day I'm going to schedule a vacation to come and visit Jorg.
