I think Nordstrand DC's and a Glockenclang 3-band say it all.
That's a beauty. However, even a 'non stock' Roscoe like this one is about as far away from the MTD tone that Mike is looking for as you can get. The Nord/Glock combo is nice, and we all had a chance to try that out in the very nice Groove Shoppe bass that Mike was using for a while. I would describe the tone as clean, crisp, polite, precise, relatively hi fi, etc. The MTD tone is growly, aggressive, grindy, huge, punchy, and snarly!

I've noticed that on the MTD's there's a wide degree of tonal variation based on where you position your right hand while slapping...maybe this is because you can hear so much of the overtone series on MTD's. Or it might just be all in my head!
I would agree with the above. I prefer the 21 fret models, and also prefer the smaller feeling neck of the older models (like the one you have). It's pretty subtle though IMO. If I was looking for an MTD and found the 'right' wood combination, I wouldn't let the 21/24 thing stop me from a purchase.
