I hope to continue these and have all 50 states and then most of the 200 or so countries but we'll see what the moderator says before I continue...
Thanks for your patience, |

and it's not like you don't see a persons location when they post. |

Poeple only post in the GTGs if they can go to that particular one. This is for anyone to post there name as a refernce for future GTGs or even just to see who lives nearby. Plus some people don't put there place in there profile and others live in multiple states, countries etc.

If it was it's own field then it would be nice to be able to do a search and exclude dates that have passed (or exclude closed threads which would also be helpful in the classifieds section) but these ideas are not quite related to this.
It would be nice to do a search of people by state or country but you can't. Maybe if you could people would be able to opt out of that if they want. "Do you want to be searchable by state or country for get-togethers etc.?" etc.
Of course these threads may be pretty busy for a week or 2 but then they will cool down and only new people will post.

Guys chime in here! |

Plus as Embryodead said, people's locations (pending they list it) are visible in every post they make.
I really just consider all of those threads a waste of bandwidth and an inconvenience to people trying to view the GTG threads in here.
If this thing were to fly, then there would have to be another separate sub forum just for these threads, but overall I feel like they would only achieve a minimal amount.
A similar comradery is formed in the GTG threads themselves as people who live in that area will post and talk to each other, thus making your threads somewhat useless and wasteful.
Last, but not least, if the Chat threads in the Lobby were considered to be too much of a waste, then I must say that I feel your threads should get the boot as well!

I agree that we should wait and see what the response is. If most people hate it then I would agree that they need to come down. No problem with that at all. |

For the 2 that I've attended, I haven't had to use the search function. People were always posting in them, so they were near the top of the first page. Sometimes people catch a glimpse of them as they're scrolling down to the classifieds too.
I just think that, given the choice between a category about get-togethers or a list of places, I'd chose the GTG.
Maybe it could be set up in the Wiki area. |

If I get to do the others I plan to do only a few at a time to keep from flooding the baord again. sorry guys. It is still up to the mods and I am sure they will listen to everyone who says anything to them. |

If you want to see what's happening in New York then post for that. The posts you made bumped everything else down by quite a few notches. Stick with your area so the rest of us can keep up with our area. No offense but 50 states and 200 countries will only make it harder to post in whatever section this will rest in.

That's what I did when I tried setting up an Ohio GTG years back. I don't think the location threads will pan out so well. |

Ask the mods to move them to a subforum and post a sticky in this forum. I plan to complete the states since the turnout has been good. This still has slight advantages as now you know what people are really interested in GTGs. Howvere I will not be doing the 191 other countries unless a subforum is created. Thatnks for letting me know. Joe |

these threads while not a bad idea, wreck the ability for TB'ers to easily view their local GTG and events.
