Hey guys,
A few TBers (Vision, Burk, maybe Mikebass and Matrok) are coming over to my house in Grosse Pointe Farms (East side of Detroit) for a small GTG this Saturday, Feb 16th, from 2 until around 4 or so to check out some gear and hang out.
The primary reason is to check out the new Bergantino AE410 with a number of heads and basses, etc.
Anyone is welcome.... PM me if you are interested and I'll send you directions.
Here's the 'wall of doom' that we will be checking out, along with a few other things. |

Looks like a pretty good hang at this point... Mikebass, Burk, Vision for sure. Shelly is tied up, but a couple more non-TBer bassist are coming by, so it should be fun! |

Here's the cabs and heads I have set up at the moment. We will also have a GK400RB and an LMII available, so that should give us a wide palette of tones (warm, tubey, hi fi, punchy, etc.,etc. ) to check out with these cabs. I set up the DB112's also, which should be a nice contrast to the 410's.
We will post up here late Saturday afternoon! |

That being said, I love gear, and also like to have some different tone palettes to use on the different types of gigs I do. I love my Bergantino 's' stack for the small club jazz gigs I do, and the Mesa/Aguilar is just amazing for the rare blues or more rock oriented gigs I do.
I also keep an entire separate rig in a city that I fly in and out of to play quite often (Another 410UL and a MB LMII). Since I typically have rental cars there, the AE410 was very intresting to me in that the 16" depth would allow for a standard sedan rental versus the SUV that I rent when hauling the other 410UL I own in that remote location. The 502 will actually be kept in that location, as a back-up to my beloved LMII! And, if I end up digging the AE410 on gigs, it will probably replace my other 410UL in that location.
So, there is a bit of method to the madness. However, it's more fun than necessary to have all this stuff. Quite frankly, the 410UL (II) with LMII and the Bergantino 210 would be all I'd ever need if my finances got crimped down the road.

The TF sounds very nice with the DB's also... more warm and punchy and tight than the LMII, but it doesn't have the low end extension or the ability to sparkle up top like the LMII.
The Mesa600 really sounds great with those... modern meets vintage... super fat, super deep, super warm, but you can hear every note clearly up and down the neck. IMO again! |

I'll be out in Saline until about 3 PM and I know I won't feel like driving to Grosse Pointe to catch the tail end of the GTG. If Jason hosts the next one I could probably make it and bring one or more of my cabs.
So how do the Markbass heads compare sonically to SWR?
Ralf

Ralf | Hope to meet you sometime. We will have my wonderful little 112 LDS Ultra light coax here, with what I assume is your very nice crossover (it's loaded with a B&C coax neo 12... not sure if the coax was shipped with its own crossover or if Don installed one of yours).
We do these hangs all the time, so hopefully you can make the next one.
Edit: The LMII and F1 have similar upper treble sizzle capability as the SRW stuff, but are much more mid present and punchy than the older 400 and 500 and even 900 models, and have less deep bass extension (tighter) which maked them sound quite a bit louder per watt than the SWR stuff. IMO there.

+1. I'm gigging in Houghton Lake of all places and the venues putting us up Friday and Saturday.
Ken, I will say if you ever want to compare your AE410 with my HS410 or hear my TFB750, I'd be glad to come down there...
If you let me play your AC. |

Hey Joe and Steve... wish you could make it. This whole thing was very last minute, really driven by Jason wanting to check out the AE410. If I can speak for him, he loves his 310UL, but wishes for a little more ooomph on occasion. He's heard my 410UL many times, and digs it, but it's too big to fit in his current ride. So when Jim came out with a lightweight 410 with a small enough profile to fit in the back seat, the PM's starting flying
Joe, I'd love to spend time with a DB750 again, and I'm sure quite a few would be interested in the HS/AE comparison. We will have to make that happen! |

Ralf | Hey Ralf! I think you'd REALLY like the Markbass heads. You can borrow my LMII anytime, just let me know. |

A while back I completely gave myself over to being an SWR freak. I'm not saying I think it's the absolute best or anything like that. I've just found that no matter what I play through, I always go for that sound (I got around the power issue by using a Grand Prix preamp). However I can't help thinking that a little Markbass head would be perfect for my practice/small gig rig. I currently use an RMX850 and a Groove Tubes pre in a 4 space rack. It's so heavy that I leave it at our rehearsal space. I could probably sell off enough extra gear to fund a Markbass purchase.
Ralf
