NYC 2010: Episode 3 - The Return of the King

Sign in to disble this ad
Our very good friend John "The Crusader" Filakovsky has just informed me that the 3rd annual International/NYC GTG and beer festival will be held at the Plattsduetsche next year on Sunday August 15th. I know the date won't be ideal for all, but then again - when is?

I have to confess that I pulled rank on those of you locals who were voting for a different time of year and pointed out that you guys only need to find time to give up a Sunday, whereas us Europeans have to plan a major trip around it. Having travelled a total of about 14,000 miles to get to the last two, I don't feel too guilty about this.

John, being the gentleman that he is, settled on the 15th to (nearly) coincide with my birthday on the 14th. So, put it in your diary, people. First round of beers will be on me. I'm sure John will post details of how to sign up for this in due course.

See you then - it will come around quicker than we all think, I'm sure.

Hoorah!

Phil, Evan - good show, chaps.

Laurent, we will find a way to get both you and your rascally Eurobuddy there somehow. Trust me on this one.

That's cool, but it'd still be a 5000 mile jaunt for me, which would make for a pretty long Sunday...

I'm in for sure on this one. Having a baby on the day of the event can't happen two years in a row and I'm glad you guys didn't set it for my son's first birthday Aug 2 2010!

Understood. But you weren't quite what I had in mind when I referred to "the locals". I was mainly talking about the Long Island or NYC guys.

At the last two, we've had lots of East Coast folks, a few Europeans, Adron from Mobile, AL and Bob Lee, all the way from Costa Mesa, CA. So, come along and represent the NW region (if my knowledge of US geography is correct).

Forgive me if I've not mentioned others who travelled a very long way to be there.

Then again...

*Ahem* Chicago checking in here, Bill. It's not on the East Coast, y'know. I hope to make it to the next one--the date looks good as of now!

Greg, I thought of you as I posted and put you in the "intermediate distance" category. But I flew from O'Hare to Newark once and I have to admit that it was a lot further than I thought! Props to you for going the distance on two occasions.

[goes off to look up distance from Chicago to NYC]

It's 711 miles.

NOLA to NYC 1167 mi (I would have thought more than this)
LA to NYC 2444 mi
Birmingham UK to NYC 3366 mi
Luxembourg City to NYC 3759 mi

I guess Laurent and JP win (especially as they travelled via Chicago, NOLA and just about everywhere else ).

I wonder if anybody has calculated the "Carbon Footprint" of all the TB GTGs ...

Should we feel guilty about this?

I make no guarantees - but until they install the high-speed, sub-Atlantic rail link - I think it's unlikely....

Long-haul flights are not on my list of things I must do...

Mark, Bruce... I think it would be absolutely great if the three of us travelled together!

Come on, guys. What do you say?

That sounds a bit like that new Fantasy series on the Sci Fi Channel - Legend of the Seeker....

So they keep talking about "the Mid Lands" and I think of your location!!
