Hey fellas,

Sounds tempting - really glad it's later in the month too, since I have gigs around the 1st this year...I thought I'd miss it for sure.

I'm building 2 more basses for smperry right now...and he's living in LI if I remember correctly...so sounds even more tempting.

John - I'll PM about dealer/vendor stuff.

Cheers!
Martin

Martin hope to see you again. Your jazz basses were my favorite basses I've ever played at any GTG. I loved them!!!!

OK...

...I'm not IN yet, but I'm all about being so this year...

I've got a BUSY summer schedule, but I believe I can make this happen.

Anyone nearby got a couch I can surf????

John, PM me vendor info, and I'll start stacking up a few toys to bring along....

I'll try to make a weekend out of it, if possible, I'd like to do the Brooklyn Brewery/Mets-Philly game hang on Saturday!!

Gard, it would be really great if you could make it. Bring me a 4 string to play with, there were way too many dang 5ers at the last GTG!

Anyway, bumping this for awesomeness and to get as many folks there as possible.

I'm looking forward to a few days in NYC, I really need a break!

Come up if you can, Neal. I went to the first two (both were great) and I plan to be back this year.

Just spoke to The Crusader and wished him a Happy B-Day. I will be meeting/toasting him tomorrow evening at the Platte. Come down if you can! It's the annual opening of the outside biergarten.

The help John was/is requesting is getting more people to commit to the GTG. I had discussed getting some getting some artwork for flyers so I can hit all the music stores in NYC after work. The more the merrier!!

Regards to all and see you soon--------------------

Don't worry about your ability! The name of the game is sharing. You will have a blast, it's a GTG on all levels. Oh yeah, tell all your friends and have them come too!!!

1) how to get there from Jersey
If you not driving (you might be able to share a ride from other NJ folk if you ask) I would suggest taking NJ Transit to Penn Station in NYC then the Long Island Railroad to the Floral Park station. It's the closet station if you can't score a cab, someone will get you.

2)bring a bass?
By all means. There will be rigs around to check out if you don't bring one and other instruments as well. Someone did say they were bringing a tuba. Nice.

3)family friendly area (drugs drinkers, blah blah)
We are family friendly everywhere at the Plattedeutsche. It is a restaurant with quality beverages/food, but not a falling down beerfest.
Check out their website http://www.parkrestaurant.com and have a look. We have the largest banquet room.

4)someone help me find an excuse or some kind of lie to tell my mother, shes worse then most of your wives
Tell your Mom if she wants to talk to one of us, PM me and I will talk to her myself. Also, look at the past years threads. It has been a great time for all in the past and this year will be outstanding as well.

5)using public transportation how will i get back or hopefully one of you local TBers give me a lift?
You can get back the way you came!

6)any celebrity's i hope
Not that I know, but we do have honored guests and quite the cast of characters.

Regards-----------

Payment sent!

I should be local by then (STILL waiting to close on a house) and can help out closer to the event.

this is not like walking into a music store where people show off. it's more about meeting people and checking out gear you can't find in stores (and if you are of age for drinking, the venue has quite a selection).

definitely. it's like being on the message board, but you are face to face, so no one is slamming you whilst hiding behind the web. not only can you learn from conversations, but you can actually hear and try out things for yourself to find out what you really like instead of just hearing what someone else likes or thinks.

see RayG's answer. when i lived in the city, i managed to get a ride from the train to the venue from a TB'er. this group is a really great group of people who are very cool and willing to lend a hand to help get you to/fro your point of mass transit. it's a bit of a haul via trains from NJ, but WELL worth it if you like bass.

bring whatever you feel like bringing. plenty of folks show up with nothing but themselves and plenty show up with everything but the kitchen sink. i find that i like having a bass with me that i'm familiar with so that when trying things out i can see what it sounds like with my bass. i also like to bring my basses so others can check them out and experience what i love. this year, i'll be bringing out at least a carl thompson, so if you've ever wanted to check one out in person, this event will be great for it. if i can swing it, i'll bring all 3.

ofcourse. people at these events vary from under drinking age to well above drinking age. i believe in the past we've even had a TBer or two with a parent at the event. if your mom is worried, she's more than welcome to join you (she might even have fun, if she likes delicious german grub and a fine beer or two). typically the debauchery doesn't really get into full effect until the event ends and those of us who hang late into the evening move into the bar area of the event hall and just hang there. but by no means is there a bad scene. don't forget, this is an event hall with staff serving food and the like. i'm sure if they saw someone on the younger side with a beer, they'd quickly correct the problem so that they don't get in legal trouble. the same is true for if the venue catches other shenanigans happening...as i mentioned before, this is a legit venue...not someone's house or a scummy bar.

no need for an excuse. this event is all good. ask her to join you if she is worried...i had my mom come with me to my first bela fleck show (mostly because the bar wouldn't let a 16 yr old kid in without a parent). if she joins you, you won't have to deal with mass transit too. maybe this could be an early bday present from good ol ma? and she'd probably be pretty surprised to find people of varying ages (probably her senior as well) all hanging out with a common love for playing bass.

i don't think you'll have a problem finding someone to get a ride to the train from. i'd offer my services, but this is an event that i usually like to drink at so my wife drops me off and comes back in the evening to pick me up.

TB celebrities...indeed. I wouldn't hold your breath for a movie star though.
