Post Pasadena Bass Day 2008 & San Diego Bass Alliance

Sign in to disble this ad
The links and info to the event are listed below. Interested to see Doug Johns perform live. If Freekbass is the heir to Bootsy's throne, Doug Johns sounds like the next in line to Francis Rocco Prestia.

Got two questions.

Having never attended one of these events before, what kind of experience/playing level should a person be at for the clinics to be beneficial? I've only been playing for a few months, so I know the fretboard and can sight read, but at a slower beginners pace.

I live in LA but am originally from San Diego. Does this San Diego Bass Alliance sponsor any functions/gtg's in San Diego? Last SD area event listed on their website is 2005.

I think it's great for people at all levels. In fact, there are so many experienced people who never learned certain things they should have as beginners and so really it's beneficial for everyone somehow.

Some things may be too advanced, but I doubt it'll be beyond the average player, even beginners. At the very least you'll be inspired!

Wow, thanks for the info! I hate to say this but I didn't even know these events existed... I am definitely not missing this.

As the dates come closer I would love to exchange numbers with my fellow TB'ers to make sure I meet at least some if not all of y'all.

I was just about to post a thread on Pasadena Bass Day when I saw your thread. Last time I had an absolute blast meeting fellow TB'ers and watching some incredible playing. I will post some pics when I can find them.

I got to "hang" with Norm Stockton, Oscar Cartaya (sp?), Trip Wamsley (double sp??)...it was an incredible day. With this year's lineup I told my wife to clear the schedule and clear some cash out of the ckg. account for this trip!! Definitely worth it.

All levels of player should feel comfortable going. If you don't bring your bass, no big deal. You don't have to go up in front of everyone if you don't want to. Totally laid back.

Just spoke to Peter at Bass Quake today and made arrangements to attend. This will be my first clinic ever, so I'm pretty excited about it.

Does anyone know if the vendors at the event are there for strictly demos or if there are any day of event sales on site? I'd definitely like to do an a/b comparison of the Audere and Aguilar onboard preamps and hopefully pick one up at a discount.

Update: Got an email back from the guys at Aguilar that it is strictly demo at these type of events, so I ended up calling Brian at Best Bass Gear to order the preamp. For all the talk Bass users with You Tube videos of your gear online, thanks for listing makes and models. Really helped me make my decision. I know I'll have another case of g.a.s. this weekend looking at all the gear.

I went to the pre-clinic bash at the Baked Potato last night. You were right, definitely inspiring. I have a much deeper respect and appreciation for these guys having seen them live for the first time. Youtube definitely doesn't give the full effect and I was blown away with what I saw last night. Tired as hell since I stayed till the last song. On my way to Pasadena now and hope to meet fellow TB members there as well. I was the Asian guy in the 2nd row. Man those potatos were pretty good last night too.
