San Diego GTG pics

Here are some pics of the San Diego GTG held last Sunday at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Ubone set it all up, and the facility worked great for the seven of us that showed up. The pics are by ubone. There were some monster players there, including ubone and ninefingerbass. In fact, I'm thinking of selling off all my gear and going back to trumpet. Feel free to comment.

"The cable for the Pink Cadillac must be handled thusly:"

Aerodynamics exemplified.

Got wood?

Yes, we got wood.

Laying down some hemidemisemiquavers.

Groovin'.

Philosophy majors.

Ubone expressing the security of his manhood.

Layin' it down.

"First you squat down and touch the floor like this, then ..."

A little eye candy.

My God! What was that sound?

Another self-confident man.

What the hell do you do with all these strings?

Man, that was too much fun! Ubone, a thousand thanks for putting it together. Count me in for the next SD-GTG. Hopefully it will happen sooner than later. And to echo Munji’s comment, Ubone and Ninefingerbass, monster players. Free lesson just listening……….

I used to live in Cardiff-By-The Sea in 2001-2001. Bass and the ocean - what's not to like. I hope y'all had fun!

Munji,
I'm sure you're skills with a trumpet are amazing but, You're grooves with the bass are just to enjoyable to abandon. As for the pink Lakland? Well, lets just say that Aretha (thats what I'm gonna call her.) is the "Pink Cadillac of Bass Love" in my book. I'd play her anytime any gig with pride.

Hell yes we need to do more of these little old GTG's and try to grow them a little here in San Diego. Pipes is now officially open to us whenever we're ready to do it again, and if it gets too small for us then we'll scare up another option.

Again, I had a blast. It was really good getting to meet those who attended and I'm looking forward to the next one. Anyone like to propose a date for when that might be?

September would be tough what with starting school but October or even November would definitely work... will def be oriented enough. Just how to get up there will be a toughie (no car at UCSD)

I regret not being able to meet you guys, but my gig was fun and the pay was good.

I recognize Munji from his profile photo. What are the TB names that go with the faces in the rest of the photographs?

Please tell us more about the contoured headless five-string - looks great!

Hey Jazzdogg,

The headless 5-string, as well as the 4-string on my strap are King basses, made by David King in Portland, OR. http://kingbass.com/

The 5-string is a quilted maple top on a mahogany back with Bartolini electronics.
http://kingbass.com/bass_descriptions/pachter2.html

The 4-string is an quilted English walnut top on an American walnut back with Lane Poor electronics.

It's a wonderful time to be playing electric bass. An amazing universe of instruments to choose from.

Thanks to those that set it up as it was awesome! I had a blast jamming with ubone and was just amazed at Glockenklang, Dr. Bass and Schroeder, light as a feather!!! By the way after seeing all those gorgeous amps and basses, I now have G.A.S. really bad. Well more for an amp but I wouldn't mind some of the basses I saw there.

I was thinking about a place for the next GTG, quite possibly a bigger place, with a litte more room. I'm almost certain that there are places that wouldnt mind renting out or letting us borrow a banquet room. Just a thought. Glad to meet all of you that went and hope to see you guys in the future.
