Xmas NY/NJ meetup anyone?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm going to be back in NJ between the 19th-31st December with the missus - off to see the in-laws for Xmas! Anyway, does anyone feel like arranging a meetup in either NY or NJ around this time? Maybe between Xmas and New Year, then we can all show off our bass-related prezzies!

I've never been to a GTG, but I'd be interested. I don't really have the space at my house to host it, but if you get more info, please let me know. I'm in southern NJ, near Philly.

I've never been either, and it's a tough time of year to find time, but, I'd like to be kept in the loop if it develops.

I think we should find a place in NNJ and make all the NY weenies come to us for once.

I could see about renting a local place... my house is a tiny summer shack converted to a year round home. I could fit 4 or 5 people MAX

I agree with you there James .....

My house is so small that I can't even fit into it But even if we don't have a "typical" GTG with tons of gear, maybe we can all just meet up at a place for a bite or a drink.

Actually, I have a gig scheduled for Friday December 29, 2006 at Rooney's Ocean Crab House in Long Branch from 7:00-11:00. The food is excellent and it's very easy to get to, located right on the shoreline with a beautiful view of the Atlantic (of course it'll be dark and you won't be able to see anything, but the idea is cool ...). Plus, if any of you guys come I can get a break and let you sit in .... there are always guitar players and drummers sitting in with us, but never any bass players (I think the 7 string thing may have something to do with that ).

But whatever shakes out, sure, let's try to get something put together, I'll help out however I can ....

I'd be interested in coming out and meeting you guys wherever it may be.
PB - Rooneys is actually a nice place. Here's a link if anyone cares to take a look:
http://www.rooneysocean.com/home.htm#

can we do a version of Spinal Taps "Big Bottom" then?

Yeah, Rooney's is all right, a little bit subdued for most of the gig because it's a heavy dinner crowd, the last set opens up a little bit. But it never gets to "Spinal Tap" levels

We're also going to be at The Cove in Sea Bright on the 16th, basically right down the street from Rooney's. The Cove is a sort of wierd joint, sometimes it's very crowded and other times it's almost empty. Could be some Spinal Tap possibilities at The Cove ..... Of course, my POS hartke head would likely blow itself apart ....

If Long Island is an option I might be able to host it. We're out in Farmingdale which is about a 45 minute drive east of NYC. The Long Island Rail Road runs from Penn Station to the Farmingdale station as well.

Man, I've played at the Cove many times, and there were some nights there when it was completely deserted. I mean nobody there. I know what your talking about.

I have never been to a GTG . I'm in retail though. I would not have a lot of options until after the New Year.

I'm an ex chef so I could help with the grub.

So, how many of us can do a GTG late December? How about a pre X-mas meeting on the 23rd?

Again, I'm willing to host on LI if we have enough people on-board.

Thanks

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm POSITIVE that my wife would be very unhappy if I went to hang out with a bunch of bass players on the Saturday of Christmas weekend No offense meant to anyone here, of course .....

I'd probably be easier somewhere between Christmas and New Year's Eve, as the O/P suggested ....
