060 on a D-tuned bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there,
me and my band have recently tuned our guitars one whole step down.
I've tried setting up the bass with a 050 gauge string set, but I still find them to be too "floppy".
I was wondering: what about buyng a 040 5 string set and throwing the G string away? would the bass hold the tension?
what do yuo guys think?

Go to the D'Addario site and download the tension pdf. Look up the tension for the gauge of rounds you prefer when tuned your normal way (make sure you are looking at the correct scale). Then figure out what size of string you need one at a time to get close to your preferred tension. Then go to a place like Just Strings and order singles if you cannot find them in a set. Even if you do not use D'Addario strings normally, this will get you in the ball park. Ken Smith offers a lot of varities that may get you there.
