Will D'Addario Chromes fit on a 2009 MIA Precision with a body through bridge? Will I need the super long set? Thanks.

Most (all?) flats aren't good for through-body stringing. Looking at the Chromes on my Ibanez AGB-140 semi-hollow, it looks like it would be close. The Ibanez has a Tune-o-Matic bridge so the balls are a little further from the bridge pieces than they would be on a standard Fender bridge. Possibly far enough that it would make it, but I'd bet it would be short and that the silks would be into the fingerboard area.

Both because the break angle is too much for flats and because the strings are too short, I'd recommend top mounting if you have that option.

I disagree. Flats are fine for a through body.

Seem to be getting mixed opinions. Flats for Through Body - Yay, or Nay?

+1

I've got Chromes on my 09 MIA Pbass V, strung through the body. I had to remove some of the silk on the low B, but it works fine. No problems with regular scale length, either.

The Yea's are based on experience, my Nea is based on conjecture. It looks to me like I'm wrong and the Yea's have it!

Chromes & TI through the body on my Laklands. TIs are so flexible that I see no problem, and many others a advised the same. I asked here on TB before putting the Chromes through the body. My Lakland JO Flats go through the bridge because Lakland has a warning on the package to do so.

I've got standard-long Chromes strung thru the body on my MIA Precision. Fits just fine.

And to the best of my knowledge... only Labella advises against stringing their flat wounds through the body. All the other brands have no such warning that I'm aware of.

First, if you're going to go string through body with chromes on the MIA P, then you should really get the super long set. D'Addario even recommends it.

Second, I recommend you don't go string through body........ top load them. Flat windings create a lot of stress on the core the more they are forced to bend. On the inside of a bend the windings cram into each other..... on the outside of the bend they pull apart...... think about the stress created on the core from the stretching going on there. Round windings deal with the bend better because they can roll up on each other, and not cause undue stress on the core.

In my case, chromes sounded great through body, but some funky overtones started developing on the D and A strings. You could pluck the D string, put your finger on the string behind the bridge saddle, and the overtone/harmonic would go away.
