well dr's (high beams) are the only strings i use. i believe these strings to be very versatile, tone wise.

I love DR's and have a set of Black Beauties on my Yamaha. They're very clear and don't need much of a breaking in period IMO.

I used black beauties on my 5-string ibanez soundgear and it looked absolutely amazing -- they blended in so well with the bass that you couldn't see them at all. There was a slight issue in that at first I had a hard time seeing the strings.

Looks aside, I refuse to use anything but DRs, so my choice is doubly obvious.

I've used Hard Rockin' Steels in metal for years, on just about any bass you can imagine, had a nice taut B string, and never had issues with QC. You'll see me rockin HRS's some time again in the future.

I like the DR for finger style. If you use a pick the black wears off (it can be re-blackened with a sharpie), just appearance, no change to the tone. Just something to think about.

If you are using the B at all and if the bass's B is a little questionalbe, La Bella has a B string that just f****n' rocks. La Bella Hard Rockin' steels are my favorite I have tried on my Sadowsky. Although I have not tried DRs on this bass primarily because I have not had good luck with DR B Strings. And they don't make them tapered.
