102-44 sets

I just got back into playing after a long layoff. After years of experimenting with tons of strings I finally settled on D'Addario nickel wounds in an in-between set of 102-44 for my Spector NS-2. 105-45 always felt a bit too thick and 100-40 always too loose. The 102-44 set was absolutely perfect. But know I find that they don't make this set anymore. I emailed D'Addario to see if they had any old stock left and they did not. Luckily I have a couple sets capable of taking a boil or two to keep me going for a little while. Anyone have any out there, or know of anyone making a similar gauge set?

A sway of .002 can and does regularly happen within a production run from string to string from any maker....

I'm sure - but you would think that divergence would center around the stated size, so the in-between set would still be somewhat in-between feel-wise. The D'Addarios always seemed pretty darn consistent to me size-wise.

Dean Markley SR2000's...they are stainless though. They have Med/Lt set that is 46-63-80-102. I have them on almost all my basses.

There are gobs of 45-100s out there. Try a bunch and see what you like. I think you'll find the particular brand and hex or round core will effect the feel more than the difference of 0.001 or 0.002. Dunlop nickels or DR lowriders might be pretty similar to how the Daddario's worked for you. For the record, I hate skinny G's and Fat E's also. Ken smith makes some pretty bizarre combination's of gauges, you might want to check them out, too.

Thanks for all the thoughts. joeman, have you tried the GHS bassics? I saw them available in this gauge and will probably order a set to try out, but just wondering if you have personal experience, especially compared to D'Addario.
