the 1987 Fender Power Jazz Special MIJ has a thin neck, will it be able to handle 105-50 tuned to Standard A440?

Yes. I have a jazz neck with 49-109 and it's fine.

People ask this alot and my standard answer is that even with high tension/gauge strings, you may have to adjust the neck, but it's not going to damage the neck.

Again, I don't see why not. You'll probably have to adjust the neck and it may take a few adjustments, but you shouldn't have a problem. In the end you have to try it and see. You may find that your neck is a bit rubbery and doesn't like the tension, but you're not going to destroy your neck.

It should be OK. I used D'Addario's regular medium gauge rounds (both the XL- series nickels and the XLS- series stainless) on my Jazz Bass Special. Those are 50/70/85/105. There are reasons the neck has and adjustable truss rod, and different string gauges are one of those reasons. And my bass was the regular Jazz Bass Special (factory fretless). Your's is the Power Jazz Bass Special which has a layer of graphite that was supposed to make the neck more stable.
