Alright. Got a set of sunbeams. Got to love shipping in Japan. Took a day to process the order and another day for shipping.

Well I'm gonna side with tylerwylie. While they do feel a little less stiff, they are about the same tension. Maybe they use a slightly smaller core because it did lessen the relief, but not significantly. About .1 mm. Also I only had to intonate my A string a little, so I really didn't have to do much setup.

They do sound bassier to me than the lo riders. I don't know if they are still new because they do have more high end, and I don't remember the lo riders having that much. The lo riders are still fairly new. I think they are a little less bright with more low mids making them sound deeper? Maybe that was what DR was talking about in my op.

I think I'll stick with the sun beams. I may go one gauge lower next time to see if it gives the neck a little less relief, but that wont probably be for a while since they are supposed to last a while.

My question is, which one has smaller vibrations? If you plucked both strings just as hard, which would move less?
Since the Lo riders are stiffer they felt they vibrate less. Maybe another reason they sound bassier. My La Bellas have .109 E string and are fairly stiff, giving it a more fundamental sounds.

I've found I need more relief when I use looser strings, and don't need quite as much with stiffer strings.

Probably true, but my bass already has way more relief than I need. It's probably why I didn't have to do much as far as setup goes. I didn't have to raise the saddles at all and it still has nice medium action.
