105 on a jazz bass

Hello all -
I'm new here - greetings. Also new to bass. I was told never to put a .105 E string on a 4-string Fender Mexi jazz bass - not good for the thinner neck. Any truth to this? Thanks.

.105 on Jazz Bass

I've use .105, .107 and .110 on my 62 reissue Jazz without any problems at all but, as always, YMMV.

FIrst of all .... welcome Dave ... secondly, MIA Jazz's come from the factory with .110TW's ... I have a STB (string thru body that I do use the .110's on, but on my top loaded Jazz either .100 or .105 ... may want to chek with those using that Geddy Lee though, that is a VERY thin neck

If the neck needs truss rod tweaks quite regularly with 105s on, you might switch to 100s. But I am not sure you would say NEVER but 105s on a jazz neck.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I somehow doubt the extra 5mm makes a difference.

I use Rotosound Swing 66's on my Jazz bass (.45-.105) and it works great. My bass is actually strung .40-.105 because I messed up the G

I had 40-100's on my MIM Jazz bass and it played like butter. Swtched to a set of Regular Slinkies (50-105) and the tone was nice but the truss rod did need tweaking to get the neck set up right and after that, I found the bass to feel kind of stiff and not as enjoyable to play.

I love beefy strings but for this bass, I am going back to a light guage. Just picked up a set of Blue Steel 45-100 to try on this bass.I expect they will be just right!

105s are fine

i'm using 105-50 gauge strings, and it's just fine. i can see where that guy is coming from, but thats not always the case. anyway, if you drop-tune, heavy strings are better than thin ones. i reccomend d'addario EXL160 or EXL165 strings.

5mm would make a HUGE difference.

I have a .105 E-string on my j-bass. Generally I prefer .100 but the .105 feels better. More booty.
