110-55 or 105-45 for DGCF?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about getting 110-55 gauge on my 87 fender power jazz special, and was wondering do I even need to go up a gauge? will Ernie ball regular 105-50 be enough or will those be floppy in DGCF ?

Thanks for your time.

EDIT: For thread title I meant 105-50.

Just depends. Honestly with just 1 step down .105's may be plenty if you're comfy with them. But .110 should work as good if not better. Wouldn't say it's required or you necessarily "have" to. For just .110's you shouldn't have to cut into your nut at all so no harm no foul just trying it once.

I'd use 110, 85, 65, 45 gauges for DGCF personally.

Yea, what they said.

The heavier set will sound "bigger" and more full, I guess you could say, cause it's slightly heavier.

I used a rotosound .116 one time on my Jazz with Nordie NJ4's for drop D and E and it sounded HUGE, especially when slapped or played aggressively.

I personally go for the sound of strings clanking off the fretboard, part of my sound, so I would go with the .105 set.
