| .125 for C?

I'm thinking of putting a light 5 string set on my SX 5 string bass that's tuned to drop C instead of B standard. Right now I have a 4 string set of regular gauge (.105) Rotosounds that are just too floppy.
I want to gain some tension in the strings but I don't want to too much tension so I can't tap in the upper register of my bass. The idea is to have enough tension to get rid of a lot of fret buzz I have without having to raise my action or not being able to tap without the aid of a jackhammer.
Can anyone help? I'm low on cash and if I decide to get a .125 set of strings, I want to get a good pair that will last me. Not a cheap-o crappy pair that will go dead in 10 minutes leaving me to buy a new set anyways. |
