135's for my 35"strung through?
 

Where can I buy heavy gauge strings for my 35" strung through 5-string?

Do you absolutely have to string the strings through the body? If not, just about any company that sells a .135 will be fine.

Circle K makes good strings but they are all tapered so not ideal for string through...


Ton of options available to you. Best for you to know the distance ball end to just past the nut.

Most likely you need a 38" to 39" winding.

I'm not looking for tapered strings. Standard roundwounds are fine.

38" to 39" sounds about right.

Do you have a materials preference?

Actually, have you ever used a .135 on this instrument? There are instances where a .135 is too thick for the thru-body portion on string thru-body instruments and does not pull through the hole.

For .135 Thru-Body there may be a couple more options but you are going to need to take a measurement. If you let me know the instrument I may have the spec's for it...

.135 B strings:

DR Hi-Beam / Lo-Rider / DDT = 38" Ball to Taper (sometimes can be 37.8
D'Addario Pro-Steel = 38" Ball to Taper
Fodera Stainless or Nickel = 39.25" Ball to Taper
Ken Smtih Stainless Steel = 38"
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flat (.136) = 39.75"

Tapered strings that do not work with thru-body instruments have been omitted.

I'd rather not pull a string off a my bass.

I measured it a couple months ago and forgot about it.
I'm currently playing with a set of DR black bueaties strung through, but they barely made it past the nut and I don't like them. It was my first time trying them.

I'd like a heavier gauge set that I can play in ADGCF comfortably.

Yeah you need 38" minimum on that... Options are above...

What do you recommend?

I'd like to try the DR DDT's, but I'm afraid of them being too short.

I guess I need to suck it up and string them through the bridge.

I also own a Spector, and that's how I string my strings (I use the Circle K .166 set for drop A, but most guys rock the .150 or .158's). The sustain I get from that top-loaded bolt-on neck is amazing - I doubt you'd notice any difference switching to top-load on some of the thicker strings.

Fat non-tapered strings will work better top-loaded because they don't like to go round sharp corners, which is what through body stringing results in. You can keep the other strings through body if you want.
For A tuning i find anything smaller than .145 too floppy and the tone suffers.
