30 Year Old Golden Spirals

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a 1951 Kay M1 that has had the same set of Golden Spirals on it for 30 years. It sounds good - but I'm wondering how good it would really sound if it had new strings - and if so, what is a good replacement since the GS aren't made anymore. I have had Golden Spirals on another plywood bass for ~35 years and obviously am used to them - and like them for ease of play. I prefer medium action since
I play bluegrass and acoustic country in occassional jams and gigs.

Bass isn't my primary instrument so I am not looking for a big investment in strings.

You might want to post this on the Double bass side of Talk Bass. This is the electric bass side.
