35" Nickel Recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I really like the sound of DiAddario XL nickels but found that they are slightly too short on my Lakland 55-02 35" scale. <!@#$> Anyone have any good recommendations for something similar that actually fits on this bass? Sunbeams are the closest thing I have found, anyone tried the Dean Markleys?

I don't know where you get your strings but the D's come in extra long for the 35" scale neck. Make sure you get them for long scale. I made that mistake 1 too many times

Looked after I wrote this and found them at Juststrings.com in like five gauge sets all super long and long for $15.95 a set. you are golden bud

All of DAddario XL sets come in Super Long Scale. You won't find them at the store though. I hardly ever go to stores anymore... Online is better.

I like my Ernie Ball slinky. Fit a 35" easily.

I am using the MTD 135x's ... love them. But I can't find theme anywhere in a brick and mortar store. My last set I got from an online store, simply strings or just strings (can't remember) and they were dead. Michael sent me a new set and they were fine.

Love the low end pounding...

Guys
im just looking for my first set of Nicks for my new Lakland 55-01 as well. I also use XL's on my Jazz but im not adverse to trying something new. Any recomendations on a set of 5's with a tapered B for a 35"? i was going to get Fender 8250-5's but it says 34" on the front.
Thanks

D'Addario Nickle in the XLS ( extra long ), but DR's last alot longer. Sunbeams or Nickle Lo-Riders. Lo-Riders have a bit more tension and a bit more "growl". Sunbeams have lower tension and less fret noise. YRMV of course.

Yes... For D'Addario's LONG scales are for 34" basses. If you need a set for 35" scale, get EXTRA LONG.

Thanks for the info. I like the XL's so may order a set.
Do you know if there will be any downside to not using a tappered B?

Thanks, ill have a look
I have just put on a set of EXL's on my 55-01. not a tapered B but i also have a set of Laklands coming (as im in the UK i have no idea when they will arrive).
I also really like Nicks and have used mostly EXL's or Fenders for the last few years so im happy i can get the EXL's in extra long scale.
Im not sure what difference the non tapered B will make but i lowered the bridge saddle a bit and it seems fine.
