I may be looking for the impossible, but hopefully someone can help me find what appears to be a rare string.
I have a super long scale bass (35") 4 string bass that I want to try a set of groundwound or tapewound string on, but these seem to be in rare (if not non-existent) supply. I've tried looking at the usually suspects like DR, D'addario, and La Bella, but unless I've missed something I don't see what I'm looking for. Does anyone know of a brand that makes a .105-.045 gauge, or higher, set of strings like this?
Requirements:
Will properly fit the 35"-36" inch scale length
Groundwound or tapewound (I don't think flatwounds will work for me.)
At least .105 on the E if not higher.
Not a 5 string set. I don't like wasting money or equipment.
Hexcore is preferable since I am down tuning (I'm trying to reduce string noise from the lack of tension in the string while tuned to C#F#BE.)
Thanks. |

At worst you may have to cut away some of the silk at the top to clear the nut with Extra Longs. Have done that myself.

-richard | I thought Super long was the longest range 35-36. There is a longer scale length? |

-richard | I couldn't find anything that let search by scale length. The bummer part is that the manufacturers aren't very good about putting all the information on their packaging. So if you just do a Search query on Super Long Scale, you may not get everything.
I personally think EVERY package should tell you the scale length and the core type. |

I also don't think they make a tape wound or ground wound. They have a coated set, but they say it's just as bright as a regular string.
The D'addario SLs would be good, but again I haven't seen an SL length in ground wound or ground wound, in the gauge I'm looking for. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
