35" Scale, String Thru, 6-String - Need Suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up a used Rogue 6-banger at GC over the weekend. Needs new strings. Looks like it is currently strung with a mix of 34". Haven't had much luck finding 'reasonably' priced, extra long scale 6-string sets. Since this is a Rogue model, I'm not going to spring for LaBellas or other such high-dollar sets. Suggestions would be appreciated (prefer nickel).

THANKS!

www.rondomusic.com has Indie strings, which are both long scale and cheap. I've not played them, so I can't help you there.

I had D'addario Nickel XL's on my 6 string fretless and liked them alot. They're not crazy expensive.

Check webstrings.com. I used their 6 pack on my 35" Rondo 6-er and it was fine.

You don't need EXTRA long scale, it's only an inch more than standard basses, and most strings have at least 3 - 4" of string past the post that you clip off anyway.

Thanks. I was about ready to email them (webstrings) and ask about the scale length.

When dealing with 35" scale AND string-thru mounting, I have found it safer to use extra long.

I bought a set of 35" scale strings for my HXB 406, and they are too short to string through the body. I will be going for the Extra Long Indie's next.

Do not buy Indie strings! I did buy three sets for a sixer and they sound crap. Especially the low B is nothing more than a dead *plop*. You can hardly hear what note you're playing.

I mailed Rondomusic and sent them a soundsample. They sent the mail to the manufacturer and there's no reply and no refund.....

I'm willing to ship a set to you for free. Then you know what I'm talking about.
