35inch scale bass strings

Sign in to disble this ad
hi,

i have a 35" 5 string bass coming soon...
i'd like to know what scale (long or super long?) i should be buying.

is there any 35" bass 5 string set that offers higher gauges?
because the 35" 5 string bass string sets i found seems low
and i prefer high gauge strings personally.

thanks for helping.
and have a nice weekend =)

I use sadowsky black label extra long scale 35s. Best strings I've ever tried. They last forever as well. Almost makes me want to go out and by an actual sadowsky bass.

DR's will fit no problem and are the best strings I've used.

I recently got a 5-string and I bought a set of Sadowsky black-label XL flats with a tapered B (45/65/85/105/130), so that should qualify as "heavy." Thing is, my 5-string has a very short run from the tailpiece anchor to the playable length, and the taper extends well into the playable area. I never actually pluck in that area, but it looks odd.

Any concerns on that? I'd like to offer a review of these but I don't want to install them if it ain't gonna work. They do get great reviews.

Well its never been a problem for me, as its very subtle. I play right about above the bridge pickup by the way, so its never gotten in my way. Take a look for yourself:

And a full body shot for reference...

Sadowsky extra long WON'T fit if it's thru body.

DR strings will fit 35" + string thru body.
Dunlop strings fit 35" + thru body.
D'Addario super longs fit 35" + thru body.
Lakland strings fit 35" + thru body.

...or just get Dunlop or DR and don't worry about it. You'll have better strings, too

I have to say no to using top load you can use D'addario Long scale 35s. I have a schecter and Modulus both 35 scale and the problem I find with D'addario is the tapper on the B. It all depends on the tapper at the nut, in otherwords they dont always have them made the same. In my experiance with D'addario is you need super long..
Or go DR, its a price jump but the quality, feel, and lifetime is well worth it. buy some string cleaner to maintain the brightness and keep the oils out of the strings.

This is true to a degree... on my Lakland 55-02 if I string the low B through the body, the string crests the nut just at the first taper up top... it doesn't seem to affect the low B but it may be an issue for certain sizes...

I use 40-120 Hi-Beams... otherwise I couldn't be happier with them...

i notice there are a lot of good words from DR strings.
but i like higher gauge strings, so DR seems a bit "light"... i think.

You need heavier than their .50-.110 sets?
