They're more than $30, but I love the Chromes on my 55-01. I've had them on there since late 2007.

La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats are a nice set for 5 string. The B string is tapered. These flats have a deep thumpy sound.

The new fender flatwounds are supposed to be pretty good and they come in around $30 online I think. Juststrings.com has the 5 string set.

Amazon carries quite a few brands of flats that would qualify for Super Saver shipping (in the US, at least). I've been getting my EB Flats and other strings from them. Amazon Prime means free two day shipping of all my bass strings.

I have used GHS Precision flats and bought the B string seprately to use on my fretless five. The old school sounding strings were most excellent of the bass and were about the around the $30 dollar mark, perhaps a dollar or two more.
Carvin also sells a 5 string set on their website that is not that expensive, and appears to be to be re-branded GHS mediums with the .128 gauge B that you usually buy seperately on the GHS label for a little less. Shipping is higher, however, so you will want to buy more than one set or thing.

The last time I looked at JustStrings, the shipping to Australia was too much because they only did express (I think it was close to $40!). I'd hope that Canada would be cheaper.
Anyway, I get mine from eBay, usually Bass Specialties. I just ordered a set of Fender 5s from them.

International shipping is the hard part from US.

USPS Global Priority Mail for up to a couple sets of strings is not horrible if you can fit them in a Flat Rate envelope.

I have shipped a number of sets to Australia and Canada recently.
