5 String La Bella Flat Users?

Sign in to disble this ad
I love La Bella flats, specifically the 760FL or 760FS sets, and am wondering if I should spread the love to my 5 string basses.

But, La Bella doesn't make a standard 5 string flatwound set, and for this reason, I have not used La Bellas on my 5 string basses, but rather Chromes or TI Jazz Flats.

But they do make a flatwound B string. Is it a good one? Anyone here use the B string single with their 760 series La Bella flats? Comments?

edit: I see Big City Strings carries the 5 string flats.

I'd go for it. I have a Labella low B, which I think I bought as part of a five string set called 760FL-B, but I think I did try it against a 4-string set of 760FL. It doesn't have a pronounced character to it, so it'll blend quite well with lighter strings (I'm actually using mine at the moment as a fifth string for a set of Pyramid black nylon tapewounds, even there it's not a bad match).

It is quite loud for a B, so if you were to use it with lighter strings, maybe you'd need to raise the B's height on the bridge a little to get consistent volume.

I bought the tapered 128 flatwound to go with a 760FL set I had. I can't imagine a better 5 string flatwound set. The B is big, deep, and true to pitch. String to string volume is just right with that combo.
