These are the only five string sets I would consider. I'm through experimenting! Tapered B strings sound horrible to me.

Through-body strings:

DR nickel Lo-Riders 45-65-85-105, .125 B for 35" scale, .130 for 34", good on any bass.
D'Addario XL super longs, 45-65-80-100-130, like them on the G&L but not the Lakland.

Top-load only strings:

R. Cocco nickels 45-65-85-105-125, sound great on the Lakland.
Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys 45-65-85-105-130, for the Yamaha.

I dig DA'darrio Chromes, good n bright for flats. Although, they may have a dead string problem, has any one else noticed or is it just me?

I just put a set of Dunlop medium gauge (45-130) on my Stingray5. They warmed it right up. I like 'em a lot on that bass. I like Dunlops on every bass I've used them on, actually.

EDIT: I meant to say Dunlop nickel strings.

I currently use dunlop nickel-plated strings. I personally like nickel-plated strings for their warm rich sounds. sometimes I use stainless steel strings, but other than that, I like nickel-plated strings.

DR Fatbeams .

I am curious about the Dunlops though , I could get two sets of the nickles for the price I paid at Guitar Center for the Fatbeams . It would be hard to replace the DRs though , every time I have gas for a new bass , amp head or cabinet I get a new set of Fatbeams and my tone is great again .

Fat beams are the only DR strings I've liked. They do sound good. I'm still using Dunlop nickel.

DR Hi-Beams on my Stingray-5. Even after they've been on there for a while, they still retain a good amount of "zing."

Carvin #5511 - made by LaBella - only $14.99! I spent a lot of time trying out different strings after having used LaBella Super Steps for years - and LaBella are not cheap - I think around $59 online (juststrings.com) - no way - I'm done shelling out the big bucks for those + I'm not convinced that the exposed core is the way to go. I prefer tapered core now - and the Carvin strings are great, since they ARE LaBella at a fraction of the price.

I currrently use Fender 7250-5L sets, but I am probably going to switch to GHS Pressurewoujnds and buy the B string seperately since they fit the style I play now.

Dean Markley Blue Steels right now. I love the sound, I just hope they don't go dead too fast.
