I dont like floppy slack strings on my bass and i down tune to c, c# d, etc and im rarely in e so im looking for strings that fit well and wont be slack and clicky for downtuning. either very heavy 4 string sets or light 5 string sets....opinions?

You should look for as set that has a .120 or so on bottom - good gauge to switch between C and D.

Are you in drop or standard intervals?

So you retune the entire set to one of the three?

A set that would work; .118 .090 .067 .049

Round to the nearest .005 if need be.

Circle K Balanced Standards are what I use, but I tune Bb, Eb,Ab,Db. The .142 or .150 sets are superb for what I do, but you are not tuning as low so go with what Knuckle head says.

You may have to have your nut recut or replaced, too, to handle the fatter strings.

(Sounds painful. )
