id go with a thicker guage DR String for metal or heavy rock, Hi beams or steel lowriders. for more classic rock or jazz, blues, id go nickle lowriders.

I like the Dean Markley Blue Steels Stainless Steel Light guage. Those keep the low B-string notes nice and clean.

I've just chucked a set of warwick yellow labels on my 5-er, 0.135 B-string. Gotta say i love them for tone and feel.

All these guys have great ideas.

I find that Steels are the most aggressive & bright sounding. Nickels are bright at first but tend to mellow faster. Flatwounds, which I use, have much more thump and warmth, plus they feel good to play when broken in. IMHO.
