Would this be safe?
Currently I'm using my friends old 5 string ernie ball super slinky strings, they sound good, but would it be safe to tune what is normally the B-E-A-D strings to D-G-C-F?
It's probably a stupid question, I've just not heard of it being done. |

You should get a set of either 50-105 or 55-110. Both those sets work nicely for DGCF tuning and will keep a nice amount of tension so they'll still be comfortable.

I play in DGCF tuning 98% of the time. The absolutely, positively best set of strings for this tuning is the La Bella Hard Rockin' Steels "D tuning" set. They're built specifically to be tuned DGCF. I've put them on a standard-tuned bass and not had to make any truss rod or action adjustments. They sound and feel great, and they're quite easy on the fingers for stainless steels. I get 'em here. The Web page has the gauges wrong, though.. the correct gauges are .054-.075-.090-.111.

I'm on a geddy lee jazz..i'm trying this tuning for a new guitarist we're auditioning and to get into something new..
oh, and these strings are 050-070-095-115

What are you guys using for the low A? Are you always buying A string separately?
