5-string tunings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I'm considering moving to a 5-string bass from a 4-string, but I play many songs in drop-D, and I am not sure how this would work out.

Obviously, I could just tune the E down to D as normal, or possible transpose to use the B string. Does anyone have a good method for this?

Thanks,

greej003

Transposing is super easy.

Ok thanks for that. Is it difficult to adjust to using standard tuning or not?

Learn the song with normal BEADG tuning using the D on the B string. Once you learn it there you can transpose it up or down with ease.

i don't get why you'd want to do that.

tune your bass ADADG imo, that's what I do. It takes about 2 seconds to tune back to standard if you want to and it gives you more range. Win Win imo.

Now if you want to do it that way for transposing purposes as practice then that's different.
