5 strings double ball end sets for steinberger

Sign in to disble this ad
hi!

I recently bought a spirit by steinberger bass...

as soon as I got the bass I put on a set of double ball end la bella strings but they just sucked, lacked tension and the low B sounded muffled and just felt floppy compared to the other strings.

I managed to get some kind of string adapters and strung the bass with d'addario strings and the low B just sounded good.

But I can't find a 5 strings double ball end set of d'addario... and the string adapters I use are not good, they just caused one string to break...

So I was thinking of getting other strings... I see GHS, Status and Rotosound offer double ball end strings...

but I need help because I like to have stiff strings, the way d'addario are... I simply can't stand playing soft strings... and I wouldn't like to spend my hard earned money just trying strings...

any advice? I heard status strings are good but I don't know how they do feel....

what else?

thanks in advance...

You might try www.steinbergerworld.com for some info on double ball strings that are available. FWIW... I have the Spirit 4 stringer, and I put Labella's on it. At first I wasn't thrilled, but after playing with pickup height the tone became much improved... just a thought. Also, there aren't alot of choices out there for double ball... but try the above website...

Welcome to the Spirit club!

Status Graphite strings are the best I've used on my three Spirits. Definitely give them a try. They have roundwound, flatwound, halfwound, and black nylon strings.

+1 for www.Steinbergerworld.com

I broke a string the first time I used an adapter. It takes some practice & patience to tighten the screws enough to hold without cutting through. Try again. Do you still have dead strings from a non-Steinberger you changed in the past? Those are good for practice.

FYI, I let a ball of Duco Cement dry on the cut end of the string to keep it from damaging the gig bag or my fingers. Hot melt adhesive could work too.

Once you can use the adapter, you can go back to your all time favoite strings.

Anyone else have any suggestions for double ball 5-string sets that will fit the Spirit by Steinberger basses? What comes on the basses? It appears to look the same as it's more expensive counterparts. I took a look at Steinbergerworld.com and didn't see anything.

Steinberger strings come stock on the guitars, but I'm not a huge fan. Check out the Status Graphites, you can get some high tension strings from them

Status Graphite sell custom double ball end sets, available gauges from .020 to .135. I recommend choosing a .135 B for a nice tight string. If you like the idea of equal tension on each string the gauges to order are 135 100 75 55 40

http://www.status-graphite.com/statu...ndex_home.html

From the menu go to 'On-line Shop' > 'Bass Strings' > 'Double-Ball' > 'Double Ball Custom Sets'

"DOUBLE-BALL STRINGS :
Round wound, half-wound, flat-wound and vintage black nylon strings are all available.
All are hand-wound and manufactured to the industry standard double ball string length
of 908mm (35 3/4") between the inside of each ball-end.
They will work perfectly on all Steinberger and many other headless basses."
