'51 reissue PBass - Rock - Which strings??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I have played a Washburn Acoustic with flatwounds for about ten years. I am currently playing in an Alt Country/Rock band.

The Washburn sounds great for many of our tunes, but I recently bought a '51 Reissue PBass which came with flatwounds.

I bought the solid body bass ('51 reissue) for some of our rockier songs, but feel it needs some Roundwounds for more midrange to cut through a bit more. We also tune a semitone down.

So in short: '51 PBass, Rocky, Tuned ST down. Which strings?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree with this bass??

Cheers,

Mark.

You're fine. Any roundwound nickels should be good.

I gravitated from flats to D'Addario 1/2-rounds for my '51RI and I'm very pleased with the tone now.

My 54 Sting reissue has a set of DR LowRiders on it and they are great for a "Rock" sound. I am thinking of trying out GHS Precision Flats on it next.
Whatever you get, it will have to be for 35 inch scales or longer because of the body-through feature. Normal 34 inch windings will not be long enough.
