6 String E A D G B E Flatwound

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for flatwound strings to tune my bass to E A D G B E. I'm guessing the heaviest I can go with the low E is a 110 guage, otherwise I'm going to put too much pressure on the neck? The thinnest I've found is a 33 guage which is usually tuned to C but I need to go to E.

Any help is most welcome!

There are string sets out there (Conklin makes them) that have a High F that you could drop a half-step, but its a plain wire. The C you found would make a good B, but You may be out of luck with the Flatwound high E.
Rockingedit: Just remembered, speak to Garry Goodman at octave4plus.com. He may be able to help you out.

Nice one!

I've looked at both sites - octave4 are doing flats in the future and conklin have yet to reply.

Cheers.

Circle K Strings. He makes 6-string sets that cater just to you needs.

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, I didn't see that you needed flats.

...when I was looking for a high C for my 5, the GC guy suggested just using a similar gauge guitar string (as opposed to a bass string). It didn't sound like a great idea to me, but it might be a last resort.

Unless its a really long guitar string or very short scale bass, guitar strings wont work cause theyre not long enough.
