6 string flatwound set

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys - noob here. I searched through the last several months of threads on the topic but couldn't find anything (though I admit my search ninjitsu could be better), so I'll start a new thread.

I just bought one of those Rondo Music specials - a Brice 6-string fretless. I figured it's decent enough to learn fretless on and not that expensive. It's currently in the shop getting a nice setup job and fixing the cheap construction issues.

Anyway, I'm going to leave the crap strings that are on it for now, but I've had a hell of a time finding a 6-string flatwound set. I've seen lots that I'm intrigued by but mostly they come in a 4-string set, or if I'm lucky a 5-string set, but hardly anything with a C string.

Any recommendations? There isn't any specific sound I'm looking for, my goal with this bass is to learn fretless and work it into my playing. I use this place for quick bass research all the time, and when I couldn't find an answer to this question I figured it was high time I registered.

http://www.rondomusic.com/760fmcbxl.html I ordered a set of these from rondo for my fretted brice and their pretty sexy. NEVER buy the Indie strings from the sight, they sound like farting into a tin can. unless you are looking for a farting-in-a-tin-can sound... the low b-string wasn't long enough to go through-bridge on, but the stock bridge, on mine at least, has the option for bridge mounting the strings. Check em out, you won't be sorry

Check these out: http://www.overwaterbasses.com/extended-flatwound.htm

You'll find the 6-string set in the drop-down box above the 'BUY NOW' button.

They're in the UK, but I imagine shipping on a set of the be very little to Mass.

Carvin has a set of flats for a very good price at their site. They are pretty good strings, too!

The Carvin flats are now rebranded GHS Precision flats. They are very nice, vintage sounding, flats.

Are they? I looked on Carvin's page and they still list flatwounds branded "Carvin".

Either way, GHS doesn't list them as coming in sets of anything other than 4-string.

The are rebranded "Carvin". Doesn't mean they aren't still GHS.

GHS makes low B and high C gauge flats. No idea why GHS doesn't have them on their site.

Carvin flats were La Bellas up until a year or so ago. Now they are GHS. Carvin rounds are still La Bellas.

Oh, wait, I thought you meant that Carvin strings were being rebranded as GHS (which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense), not the other way around.

Don't mind me, I'll be fine.

Anyway, thanks all for the feedback.
