oooo good point. My mistake for not specifying...

Im new to the 7 world...so id like to start off standard BEADGCF...but, if i get creative i wont go far...maybe just dropping the C and F to B and E, respectively.

so i guess...nothing crazy.

Right now mine is set up with the SIT-Conklin strings that came with my Groove Tools. They're alright, but I believe that there's better out there. Plus, I asked SIT at NAMM about a low F# string and was told there was a three-week wait after ordering.

IIRC, Ken Smith makes a 7 string set, and SIT makes an upgraded set of sorts for a 7, but I think I'll end up ordering Circle Ks in a little while here.

I know there are a few guys on TB who use their favorite 6er sets and order an F string. I considered doing this until I realized my incredible, burning desire to go lower than B.

I'd love to know what other 7 stringers use, too.

Hm...Circle K's cant be used on a string through body bass though. And, even though my saddle have the option of string through or not, i think id like my first new set to be string through capable.

Or...since it seems to be only the low strings that have trouble...maybe only string the high 5 through body?

anyone have an old dead set they wanna send me to see if they fit? haha

Yeah, believe it or not. But i think i'll try the Circle K's anyway....since if they dont fit through body...i can just use the top saddles for the low strings.

Smiths on my 7 are acceptable...

NOTE .. the unwound high string commonly does not need to be replaced... this gets you through a 6 string set..

Most 7 string sets are a hodge-podge of things. The Smith's and Conklin's are most common for full sets, but a lot of players are using 5 or 6 string sets then supplementing what's missing. I use LaBella flatwounds (6 set) and supplement the F with a plain steel SIT .... works pretty well for me with no difference in the output.

Circle K's have received good marks, as have O4P's. I'd give a shout out to both of them and see what they can do for you ...

I used Ritter Swordsteel strings on my Listerud 7-string. Excellent strings IMHO.

I have a Conklin GT07, the F is plain steel (of unknown origin, as this was on the bass when I got it used) The rest is a 6 string RotoSound stainless steel set.
The F has a noticeable difference in output, it is much louder than the C and sounds quite different.
The strings have a very low action, but the pu is adjusted as well, so it is not a problem of the F being much closer to the pu as the others.

I'm looking for a 7string set as well, as the "leave the F and put a 6 string set on" seems to be not working. Any thoughts on a wound F? Anyone makes such?

You will be very hard-pressed to find a wound string for the high side of that bass unless you use very light gauges.

I was using a LaBella HRS wound F.... .022 was the gauge.

I switched to a plain F set from Circle K and have no issues with string to string levels.

I don't get this, but anyway, I have checked your site and found a lot of options. From what I have gathered, the .23 is the thinnest wound string, that can be used as the high F string for a 'normal' tuned 7 sting (BEADGCF)
Do you ship to Overseas?
