8 String Bass... High G Guitar "octave" string broke

How would I replace it? Just get a long scale guitar string and use the G? Or do I need a piccolo string...?

The guy at the store said the strings look like piccolo strings when i first got the bass but they look the same as any old guitar G string.


Any advice?

First off does the ball end look like a bass string or like a guitar string. If you need a big ball like a bass string you either have to use a piccolo bass string or you may get away with a long guitar string by using a washer or similar.

What make and model is the bass?

8-strings, as in 4+octaves? JustStrings.com is where I get single GHS strings. I use the DYB 20. I believe the PB 20 is the same, minus the silk.

Since I dug the extra strings out:

E - DYB 45, (Fits 34" Scale Basses)
A - DYB 35, (Fits 34" - 35" Scale Basses)
D - DYB 25, (Fits 34" - 35" Scale Basses)
G - DYB 20, (Fits 34" - 35" Scale Basses)

The red silk looks cool in contrast to the Main 4-strings of the blue silk Chromes!
