8 string strings trouble

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I just bought a Rogue 8 string nothing special but it's sweet and it was cheap and had a cool sound so I bought it. Anyway I've been looking for strings for this puppy and it only seems D'addario has some that are more on the heavier side. ALTHOUGH I bought some GHS which were for it aswell but it was a really light light gauge. something like .040-.090 for the bass strings and .020-.045. Octaved strings I don't have a problem with it is the lower strings. They are really light gauge and yet the tension is incredibly high and I can barely bend it or anything. I was wondering because I do prefer heavier gauge strings but yet I do prefer less tension than what I'm getting with it. Any help or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

buy a normal set of 4 string bass strings for your lower strings, then but a set of guitar strings for your treble strings and throw the top two away (guitar strings should be long enough for your bass, but its wort checking first). This is great because you get to choose your gauges more carefully. Or you could go the whole hog and buy the eight strings seperately, that way you could get exactly what you want.

there's no way guitar strings will go to 34, if the rogues a 34.

i've measured out my normal guitar set, and it will do baritone length, 28 5/8, tops.

even if you can get them to that length, the extra tension of tuning 9 inches under the string will probably snap it. remember you have to tune them to the same pitch, but 9 or so inches longer.

I buy Waterstone 12string sets take the 4 lighter gauges and match them with Rotosounds and I end up with a complete back up set. Waterstone's even have the smaller guitar size string end so I can go through the body

GM.

I tried the guitar string already when I first bought it and they weren't long enough. I bought the GHS 8 string set and it's fine and dandy but the gauges are really really light and yet the tension on the strings is massively tight and I don't know what else I should do the light strings I'm not used to for feel and size. with these its like taking a tenor 4 string set so like ADGC and tuning it down to regular EADG but yet the tension is really tight. I feel like I'm rambling but it is really weird and wouldn't mind a solution to this problem.

Are you stuck on using GHS? I've always used D'Addario strings on my 12 and loved them.
