Seriously?

that is some pretty crazy string guages. I am curious what kind of basses are able to "swing" this kind of setup, and how many of you guys are pulling this off? Not to mention this would likely push the heck out of your amp and cabs.

*raises hand*

I use Circle K .182, .136, .100, .076 on my Fender P-bass tuned F#BEA.

Any bass can handle huge strings like this, just a matter of finding a bass with pickups that compliment it so to speak. Sounded like crap on my Thunderbird, sounds great, nice and clear on my P-bass.

Really doesn't seem to push my amps and cabs too much harder. It's a little bit of a myth IMO and IME that you need some 2000 watt amp and subs to do sub-bass tunings. Been doing just fine with 2 200 watt Sunn amps and 2 2x15's, all gear from the 70's. Sounds huge. I think what is necessary is the proper gauge strings, and proper setup. If it's not sounding right starting at the bass, it won't sound right anywhere else along the line. Certainly true of any tuning, but with large gauge strings, issues like a buzzing nut or saddles come through much louder.

There's a thread going on in the bass section of the forums right now about this exact tuning.

i have both my gibsons (grabber and RD) with huge strings on them from circle K, i think i have a 168 on both, and one is tuned to A the other to G, and i have no problems with the bass or the rig handling them.

My first reaction to the title was: Why is someone starting a thread about an ip address on TB?

Damn, I need to cut back on overtime before work kills me

man! I started working at a new job last week and then got the flu. Try learning all the corporate subnets and vlans at a TV station when dayquil is making your brain all fizzy.
Funny thing is I tune to C below E standard and I use medium light strings. usually 95 or 90's. I like being able to bend strings easily.
