for ABG: Nickel, Steel or ?

Hi All,

I'm planning to restring my Martin BC-15E with an ADGC setup. Currently, I just use the stock phsophor-bronze strings. Love the sound. But nobody appears to make a high C in phosphor bronze. I guess this means I'll have to use an "electric" set.

So, which other metal combination will come closest to the sound? I want bright and full, "low guitar," good for strumming, chording and the like. Is that nickel, steel or something else?

Thanks.

Somebody has to make a high C in a phosphor bronze. I have tried other kinds of strings but have returned to phosphor bronze on my tacoma, I love the sound. I know that some companies make 6 string acoustic bass guitars so somebody has to have strings for them.

Hardly anyone makes 6-string acoustic basses, and all of them are customs, aside from those super cheap ones on ebay, and maybe the ones (forgot which) that Steve Bailey has...I think they did a limited run of them.

The only Bronze C-string I can think of is the TI Acousticores, but those have a nylon core. Probably not what you're looking for for a bright, guitar-like tone.

You could ask and see if DR would do a custom set for you. They make Bronze acoustic bass strings so you'd just need a couple custom gauges for the B and C.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to call around and see if I can persuade someone to make me some custom sets.

Failing that, should I go for nickel or steel given my tonal preferences? Or is there another kind of string made for electric that would be a good choice?

Thanks.

Maybe find a company that makes 6 string acoustics and ask them?

If you don't find any Bronze strings, Steel would be brighter. Maybe you'd want a light gauge Steel set if you're going to be doing chording stuff. So it'd be a little easier on your fingers. I dunno if you like lower or higher tension though?
