acoustic bass: which strings for more volume?

I was wondering, what things affect the bass volume in an acoustic bass?

how about gauge? the higher the better? or the other way around?

And what about the flats? rounds? others?

any info is welcomed!

I have an Ibanez ABG and the dr rare acoustic strings sound pretty loud but the action is kinda high. I am getting ti lowered soon and i'll let you know if there is a noticable difference.
