action difference

Sign in to disble this ad
i think this is one thing that hasnt been discused at length, at least i searched and couldnt find it, but will flats be able to give lower action because of the higher tension? i dig in deep with my bass and i get a lot of string noise from my DR's so i have to raise the action which makes my left hand technique harder. im gonna try the new DR flats so im trying to see if a new set up will be needed or if i can keep it the same. thx.

Yes higher tension strings will allow you to play with lower action

but the biggest thing that will allow low action is your technique.

If you like the DR sound then try their Lo-Riders. Much higher tension than the Hi-Beams. They do sound different though, for example the Lo-Riders have more and thicker lows.

might have to consider the low riders now, though no matter what string i chose i know theyll be serious cuz DRs are my favs. ive been planning on trying a flatwound anyways but there are aspects of the roundwounds that i like.
