Action and Saddles and Bridges

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an '97 Ibanez SR 400 that I am upgrading because I really love the feel and I also want to learn as much as I can about such things.

I want to see how low I can get my action but already, the stock Ibanez bridge saddles have bottomed out, at least on the E. I would like it a bit lower, so I'm thinking about getting a new bridge.

Suggestions? Words of Wisdom?

Thanks all

You are probably best trying a neck shim. A strip of thin business card stock placed between the neck heel and the body should do the job. Lower saddles may be hard to find and likely will negatively effect the string break angle at the bridge.

A shim is free and easily reversible if you don't like the result.

Peace,
S

+1 on neck shim. Lots of advice in Setup/Repair forum.

stop, and find a guy to look at it for you.

the problem is probably not the bridge at all; i'll bet the neck has too much bow and/or the nut is too high.

playing with saddle height or shimming the neck won't fix either problem.

+2, this should be moved to "set up and repair".
