ADGCF but higher tuning not drop!

Has anyone done this before? I know its an unusual way of tuning but I thought it would be more useful for songs that required chords etc, and more melodic stuff, what sort gauge strings would you need? Had a quick google and there doesn't seem to be any mention of it in these forums.

If you want it, go for it. But..be careful. It can be suicide to bring a "bass" like that to a gig.

Yeah thats no problem.

You would basically pickup a Piccolo bass set and add one lower string for the A...

D'Addario XL Nickel Piccolo set looks like this: .020P .032 .042 .052 And you would add a .070 for the A, or even a .075 for a little tighter of a string...

GHS has a Piccolo set as well in their Boomer line... .018P .030 .040 .050 an add a .070 / .075.

DR makes .020 Plain Steel strings, so you could use that along with similar gauge singles to make your own solo set.

A couple of companies (Ken Smith / MTD) make .020W Wound Strings if you chose to use those... But the plain steel sound a little cleaner (less finger noise) and are also a little more durable...

There are a ton of options for this actually... And it is pretty common.

Build a custom set from singles 70 50 35 25 17p for an easy-to-chord balanced tension extra light set. You can use a plain guitar string for the F if you can find one long enough, with a detached bass ball-end threaded onto it to fit the bridge. Build your own string set!

Or balanced tension sets here Circle K Strings - Standard Balanced 5 Strings
