Advice on contact core strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a fender stu hamm urge II which still has its original strings. The saddles are very narrow and the E string is contact core. I would like to replace these with exactly the same set but not sure which ones they are! Can anyone help? Thanks people

I looked up the bass on their site and this is what they had listed that comes on the bass:
Super Bass 8250M NPS, p/n 073-8250-006,
Gauges: .045, .065, .085, .110TW (Taperwound E)
Last I had a set of these, they had a light blue silk on them.

This is a taperwound string and not a contact core, which to my knowledge Fender does not make. If it is a contact core string, the original strings may have been replaced in the store.

Just in case you are not sure:

On a contact core string, the bare center core wire will be showing without any other layer of string wrapped around it. A taperwound will have the outer layer wrap missing at the ball end, but still have the middle layer covering the center core.

Hope this helped.

If I may suggest - The Roto Piano String Design is brilliant as you can set the witness point as close to the saddle as you want. Worth the effort as you can sidestep inharmonicity issues that can crop up when using this sort of string.
