it's very hard to get a upright/ bright sound.
for an "upright" sound i'd try flats, or TI flats, lots of boom and not too bright.
For a "bright" sound i'd try using d'addario 1/2 rounds, these are great and i use them on my stingray5 fretless, very bright when i want them to be, but still have that flatwound "feel" and leav almost no wear on your board.
hope this helps,
